একটি পাকা তাল। একটি নিঃসঙ্গ বাড়ি। দুটি মানুষের সম্পর্ক, যা বারবার বিচ্ছেদ ও প্রত্যাবর্তনের অদ্ভুত চক্রে আটকে যায়।

বাংলার প্রত্যন্ত এক গ্রামে লোকালয় থেকে দূরে নিঃসঙ্গ জীবনযাপন করে সাদু। বিয়ের পর স্ত্রীর আচরণে অতিষ্ঠ হয়ে সে বারবার তাকে দূরবর্তী, অপরিচিত জায়গায় ফেলে আসে। কিন্তু আশ্চর্যজনকভাবে, বাড়ির পাশের তালগাছ থেকে একটি পাকা তাল মাটিতে পড়ার পর স্ত্রী আবার ফিরে আসে তার কাছে।

পাকা তালের রস দিয়ে তৈরি পিঠার স্বাদে সাদুর জীবনে জন্ম নেয় নতুন এক মায়া। ধীরে ধীরে তালগাছ, তার ফল আর দুজন মানুষের সম্পর্ক জড়িয়ে পড়ে এক রহস্যময় চক্রে, যেখানে বিচ্ছেদ ও প্রত্যাবর্তন, আকাঙ্ক্ষা ও বিতৃষ্ণা, অধিকার ও ভালোবাসা পরস্পরের মুখোমুখি দাঁড়ায়।

স্ত্রীর পরিচয়, তার ফিরে আসার রহস্য এবং সাদুর নিজের আকাঙ্ক্ষার সংঘাত তাদের জীবনকে নিয়ে যায় এক অনিশ্চিত পরিণতির দিকে।

মেজবাউর রহমান সুমন পরিচালিত রইদ বাংলার গ্রামীণ প্রকৃতি ও লোকজ বাস্তবতার ভেতর দিয়ে অনুসন্ধান করে মানুষের সহজাত প্রবৃত্তি, নিঃসঙ্গতা, প্রেম, মায়া এবং সম্পর্কের জটিল বন্ধন। আদম ও ইভের আদি আখ্যানের অনুরণনে নির্মিত এই চলচ্চিত্রে একটি পাকা তাল হয়ে ওঠে দুই মানুষের অস্তিত্বকে বারবার একসূত্রে বেঁধে রাখা এক রহস্যময় প্রতীক।

🌴 A ripe palmyra fruit. A house in solitude. Two souls bound in a strange cycle of separation and return.

In a remote village in rural Bengal, far removed from the bustle of human settlement, Sadhu lives a solitary life. After marriage, driven to the brink by his wife’s behaviour, he repeatedly abandons her in distant, unfamiliar places, hoping to leave her behind for good. Yet, in a curious turn of fate, whenever a ripe palmyra fruit falls from the tree beside their home, his wife finds her way back to him.

The sweet taste of pitha made from the ripe fruit’s pulp awakens an unexpected tenderness in Sadhu. Gradually, the palmyra tree, its fruit, and the lives of the two become entangled in a mysterious cycle—where separation and reunion, desire and repulsion, possession and affection collide.

As the mystery surrounding his wife’s identity and inexplicable returns deepens, Sadhu finds himself caught between longing and resistance, drawing their lives towards an uncertain and unsettling fate.

Directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, ROID is an evocative cinematic exploration of human instinct, solitude, desire, love, and the intricate bonds that hold two people together. Rooted in the rural landscapes and folk traditions of Bengal, and echoing the primordial tale of Adam and Eve, the film transforms a single ripe palmyra fruit into an enigmatic symbol of a bond that refuses to break—a quiet, haunting force that draws two lives back to one another, again and again.

Some bonds cannot be escaped. Some returns are written into the nature of existence itself.
